What happens to your file
LibreOffice opens the file headless on Fylane’s servers and writes the target with its own export filter — the same conversion Save As does on a desktop, without the desktop. Deleted on schedule.
Questions
Do formulas survive?
Common ones, yes — arithmetic, lookups, the usual statistical functions. A few Excel-only functions become their last calculated values instead, and the conversion cannot tell you which, so check a sheet that leans on unusual formulas before you rely on it.
Can LibreOffice Calc open an .xlsx without converting?
Yes, directly. Convert when you want the workbook genuinely stored as OpenDocument — an archive policy, or an organisation that requires the open standard.
What is ODS?
OpenDocument Spreadsheet, the spreadsheet half of the same ISO standard that gives ODT for documents. It is what LibreOffice Calc and OpenOffice use natively, and what Google Sheets exports when you ask for OpenDocument.
Do my macros come across?
No. Excel macros are VBA and LibreOffice uses Basic; nothing translates between them. Keep the original workbook if the macros matter.
What about charts and pivot tables?
Simple charts carry over. Pivot tables and elaborate charts are the two things most likely to need rebuilding, because the formats model them differently.
Do it once, not on every form
Fixing a file here means downloading it and going back to the form. The Fylane extension does this work inside the form instead, on the file you already have.
