What happens to your file

Do charts come across?
Simple charts carry over. Elaborate ones may need redrawing in Excel, because the two formats describe chart styling differently.
Can Excel open an ODS file without converting?
Yes — Excel has read OpenDocument spreadsheets since 2007. Convert when you want a real .xlsx, usually because a system demands that extension or because the workbook is going to live in Excel from now on.
Do formulas survive?
The common ones do. A LibreOffice-only function has no Excel equivalent and arrives as its last calculated value, so check any sheet using something unusual.
Why did I get an ODS in the first place?
Usually LibreOffice, OpenOffice, or a Google Sheets export where OpenDocument was chosen. A good many public bodies publish data as ODS because it is an open standard rather than one vendor’s format.
Is the row limit different?
Yes, and it favours this direction. XLSX holds 1,048,576 rows per sheet, which is more than most ODS files will ever carry, so nothing is at risk going this way.
Do it once, not on every form
Fixing a file here means downloading it and going back to the form. The Fylane extension does this work inside the form instead, on the file you already have.
