How to make a Vietnam visa photo
- Drop a photo of yourself against a plain, evenly lit wall.
- Move the box so your head and shoulder tops fill it.
- Press Make photo and download the 472 × 709 JPEG.
What happens to your file
The Vietnam National Electronic Visa system states the rules for a visa photograph, and these are its words: “Recent photo, size 4x6cm, jpg/jpeg format, file size ≤ 2MB, face looking straight, no hat, no glasses, polite clothes, white background” — the Vietnamese e-visa portal, on its own upload field. This page writes exactly 472 × 709 pixels, inside every bound the Vietnam National Electronic Visa system publishes.
Vietnam publishes no pixel size at all. It states a physical size — 4 by 6 centimetres — a format and a ceiling, and nothing else. This page writes that physical size at 300 dpi, which is 472 × 709 pixels.
The portal contradicts itself on the ceiling: the text attached to the upload control says 2 MB, and another string in the same English language pack says 10 MB. Both appear in every language the portal offers, so neither is a translation slip. This page keeps under 2 MB, which satisfies either.
The portal also asks for no hat and no glasses, which is stricter than most countries.
The crop and the encode happen in your browser. A photograph of your face, attached to an application, is exactly the kind of file that should not travel to a stranger’s server, and here it does not.
What we cannot check for you: that the photograph is recent, in colour, evenly lit, and taken against a white background. Those are yours. Every figure on this page was read off the Vietnam National Electronic Visa system’s own page on 2026-09-10; if it has changed since, the authority is right and we are not.
Questions
What size photo does a Vietnam visa need?
Recent photo, size 4x6cm, jpg/jpeg format, file size ≤ 2MB, face looking straight, no hat, no glasses, polite clothes, white background This page writes 472 × 709 pixels, inside those bounds.
What background does it need?
A white background. A plain wall in even daylight is the easiest way to get one — stand a good arm’s length in front of it so your own shadow falls away.
Is my photograph uploaded anywhere?
No. A JPG, PNG or WebP is cropped and encoded by your own browser; the page works with the network unplugged. Only a format the browser cannot decode, such as HEIC from an iPhone, takes the cloud path, and the page says so before it does.
Can I print this one instead?
Yes. The Vietnam National Electronic Visa system gives the printed photograph as 40 × 60 mm, and the file this page makes prints to that size cleanly.
Do it once, not on every form
A form that wants a square JPEG under 240 KB says so on the page. The Fylane extension reads that, fits your photo to it, and puts it in the field — without you working out what 240 KB looks like.
And it keeps the result. The next application that asks for a résumé, a cover letter and a photo fills all three from one tap, each one refitted to what that site accepts.
Your files stay in the browser, encrypted, on your machine. Nothing is uploaded to keep them and nothing is sent anywhere to fill a form.
