How to make a Singapore visa photo
- Drop a photo of yourself against a plain, evenly lit wall.
- Move the box so your head and shoulder tops fill it.

What happens to your file
The Immigration & Checkpoints Authority states the rules for a visa photograph, and these are its words: “The dimension is 400X514 pixels for upload of photos via e-Services.” — the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority. “The online photograph submitted must be of JPEG format, with a file size not more than 60 Kbytes and dimension of 400 x 514 pixels.” — the same authority, on its visa question page. This page writes exactly 400 × 514 pixels, inside every bound the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority publishes.
Singapore is exact about the pixels and contradicts itself about the file. The authority’s current photo guidelines allow 8 MB and five formats; its own visa answer says JPEG at no more than 60 kilobytes. Both are the same authority.
This page writes a JPEG under 60 KB, which is the only output that satisfies both documents. At 400 × 514 that costs nothing a person can see.
The photograph must have been taken within the last three months, with shoulders and hair fully visible and a neutral expression with the mouth closed.
The crop and the encode happen in your browser. A photograph of your face, attached to an application, is exactly the kind of file that should not travel to a stranger’s server, and here it does not.
What we cannot check for you: that the photograph is recent, in colour, evenly lit, and taken against a white background. Those are yours. Every figure on this page was read off the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority’s own page on 2026-09-10; if it has changed since, the authority is right and we are not.

What size photo does a Singapore visa need?
The dimension is 400X514 pixels for upload of photos via e-Services. This page writes 400 × 514 pixels, inside those bounds.
What background does it need?
A white background. A plain wall in even daylight is the easiest way to get one — stand a good arm’s length in front of it so your own shadow falls away.
Is my photograph uploaded anywhere?
No. A JPG, PNG or WebP is cropped and encoded by your own browser; the page works with the network unplugged. Only a format the browser cannot decode, such as HEIC from an iPhone, takes the cloud path, and the page says so before it does.
Do it once, not on every form
A form that wants a square JPEG under 240 KB says so on the page. The Fylane extension reads that, fits your photo to it, and puts it in the field — without you working out what 240 KB looks like.
And it keeps the result. The next application that asks for a résumé, a cover letter and a photo fills all three from one tap, each one refitted to what that site accepts.
Your files stay in the browser, encrypted, on your machine. Nothing is uploaded to keep them and nothing is sent anywhere to fill a form.
