What happens to your file
pandoc reads the EPUB on Fylane’s servers and writes a DOCX with Word’s heading, list and quote styles, so the navigation pane shows the chapters. DRM-protected books cannot be read by anyone.
Questions
Can I convert a Kindle book?
Only if it is an EPUB without DRM. AZW and KFX are Amazon’s own formats and are not accepted here, and a book bought from a store carries DRM that nobody can read around. A book you wrote, or one published without protection, converts fine.
Do the chapters become a proper document structure?
Yes. Chapter headings are written using Word’s own heading styles, so the navigation pane shows the book’s structure and you can build a table of contents from it in one click.
What happens to the cover and the images?
Images inside the text come through in place. The cover, which an EPUB stores as a separate item rather than as part of the first chapter, may arrive as an ordinary image at the start or not at all depending on how the book was built.
Why is the formatting simpler than in my reader?
Because an EPUB is a small website and a Word document is a page. Reflowable styling, embedded fonts and reader themes have no equivalent in DOCX, so the text, headings, lists and images survive and the presentation is rebuilt in Word’s terms.
Should I convert to Word or to PDF?
Word if you intend to edit it, PDF if you intend to print or send it unchanged. The EPUB to PDF page does the second.
Are my files kept?
Uploads are deleted after 24 hours and results after 7 days; nobody opens them in between. See the data safety page for the exact policy.
Do it once, not on every form
