What happens to your file

The text is opened by LibreOffice as UTF-8 and laid out on A4 pages in Liberation Serif at a readable size, with the line breaks it had; there is nothing else to keep. Deleted on schedule.

Questions

My text has boxes where letters should be?

The file is not UTF-8 — an old Windows export is usually Latin-1 or CP1252. Open it in a text editor, save as UTF-8, and convert again.
