How to make a Korea visa photo
- Drop a photo of yourself against a plain, evenly lit wall.
- Move the box so your head and shoulder tops fill it.

What happens to your file
The Korea Visa Portal states the rules for a visa photograph, and these are its words: “Digital Photograph (in natural color, size: 3.5cm x 4.5cm)” — the Korea Visa Portal. “A color photo taken within the last 6 months (full face without hat, front view against white or off-white background)” — the statutory visa application form. This page writes 413 × 531 pixels, which is exactly 35 × 45 mm at 300 dpi. Print it at that size and every measurement is right.
Korea calls the uploaded file a digital photograph and then sizes it in centimetres. It publishes no pixel dimensions, no resolution and no file-size rule anywhere in its guidance. This page writes 35 × 45 mm at 300 dpi.
The portal does enforce a 500 KB ceiling and accepts only JPG and BMP, but those numbers live in its upload validator rather than in anything it publishes as a requirement — so treat them as what the system will accept, not as the rule.
The Korean embassy in the United States asks for a 2 × 2 inch photograph while the consulate in Los Angeles asks for 35 × 45 mm. Both are Korean government pages. The statutory form says 35 × 45 mm, which is what this page follows.
The crop and the encode happen in your browser. A photograph of your face, attached to an application, is exactly the kind of file that should not travel to a stranger’s server, and here it does not.
What we cannot check for you: that the photograph is recent, in colour, evenly lit, and taken against a white or off-white background, with no hat. Those are yours. Every figure on this page was read off the Korea Visa Portal’s own page on 2026-09-10; if it has changed since, the authority is right and we are not.

What size photo does a South Korea visa need?
35 millimetres by 45, printed. The Korea Visa Portal publishes no pixel size and no file size at all, so this page makes that physical size at 300 dpi.
What background does it need?
A white or off-white background, with no hat. A plain wall in even daylight is the easiest way to get one — stand a good arm’s length in front of it so your own shadow falls away.
Is my photograph uploaded anywhere?
No. A JPG, PNG or WebP is cropped and encoded by your own browser; the page works with the network unplugged. Only a format the browser cannot decode, such as HEIC from an iPhone, takes the cloud path, and the page says so before it does.
Do it once, not on every form
A form that wants a square JPEG under 240 KB says so on the page. The Fylane extension reads that, fits your photo to it, and puts it in the field — without you working out what 240 KB looks like.
